The Artist Guild: Watercolor Painting

*Welcome to the Artist Guild, this is our opportunity to create together. The second Thursday of the month we come together to share our creative projects. There are eight creative activities that we'll be working on through September. To learn more, read here. We would love to have you join us and link-up your creative awesomeness!

Today's Artist Guild activity, paint a watercolor painting.

I've been really fascinated with this whole watercolor painting business that can happen in photoshop. However, when I sat down to make my attempts at something that looked half way like watercolor I was pretty lost. Tyler had been painting in the app Brushes, so I thought I would give it a try. Thinking back on the experience it seems rather perfect. Talk about getting back to basics, your basically just finger painting.
The great thing about the Brushes app is that there are lots of different brushes you can use and you can create multiple layers. I started off pretty easy and tried to paint a feather. I think it came out pretty well.
After that I tried to do a moonscape. It started our really rough, so Tyler sat down with me and helped me with the colors and texture. That moonscape painting only looks that good because I had Tyler walking me through steps.
The last painting I did was a mountain landscape. Tyler coached me through this painting too. He wanted me to get conformable with just painting different shapes to create a finished piece.
Tyler and I are big fans of this app and I wanted to show you one of Tyler's painting, that why if you're interested you can see the possibilities for creating in it. This is one of my favorite paintings that Tyler has done recently, we named her Tomato.
Now it's your turn! I would love to see your watercolor paintings! You can share any watercolor painting you like, it doesn't have to be in photoshop or brushes. Just share with us your creation!

August 14th  : Share one non-related blog photo shoot
I used to take photos all the time, not at all related to blogging. Step away from your blog content, grab some friends and take their photo. You don't have to have a big fancy camera for this task. It's about breaking away from your blog.

  2. I am super intimidated by how good y'all's drawings are!! haha! I need to check into getting that app on my iPad though! I used to draw a lot and sort of stopped a while back. I loved it, but I feel like I've lost a lot of my skills! Maybe I just need to dust them off. :)

  4. That feather is beautiful! I've played around on Lamar's tablet in the watercolor app, but I just can't get the hang of it! I'll have to practice some more. I hope it's okay that I linked up one of my past watercolors that I painted earlier this spring. :)

    1. Thanks Lauren! I had a lot of fun learning how it all works. It was really hard at first. It's tough diving into something without any direction. Thank goodness Tyler is always there to help.

    1. Ahhh! Thanks friend! My artistic skills are a work in progress, but it's a lot of fun! I always feel really grateful that I married an artist. I never really thought about it until Tyler and I talked about how different our lives would be if we married different people, and I love that because he's an artist it inspires me in so many ways.
