LATM: HOLIDAY SESSION

Literature And Teaching Ministries aka LATM. Cindy works at LATM and I did a shoot with her and her family this summer. She contacted me to do holiday photos for LATM. I love doing shoots when Cindy and her husband Ralph are around, the two of them are so fun and relaxed. And the team at LATM were just as fun! You should check out the LATM website and find out all the great things they are doing. : )

Friday Favorite: Zoe

Oh goodness, I can’t believe I haven’t posted this as a Friday Favorite before now. Let me introduce you to Zoe, she is my FAVORITE! Not even kidding. I love this dog and I probably spoil her. I’m one of those people who role around on the floor, allow my arms to get gnawed (not hard of course), and smoosh my face against hers. Oh yes, I’m 100% serious. Oh yea, I should tell you a little bit about her right? Well, she is 11 years old and she walks around like an old lady because when I was in college she got hit by a car and broke her hip. She doesn’t like thunder storms and barks at the lighting and thunder. And she also whines a little if my bedroom door is closed late at night because she sleeps on my carpet when it’s “bed time.” She is also very loyal, obedient, and well she has become co-dependent. She doesn’t have to be leashed so I used to just let her out and she would go out and do whatever she needed, but now she doesn’t like to go out by herself, she likes to have company, she’s silly. I almost forgot, she is a blue heeler, which is an Australian cattle dog.

Friday Favorite: New Life

Are you wondering what about this photo is my favorite? Or what the title means? Nearly all summer after the tornado my mom kept talking to me about the trees, I think my aunt even called them puddle trees. My mom then asked me to take some pictures of the trees. I didn’t think much about it and agreed, after she reminded me many, many times.

So one evening we went out driving and I took some pictures of the trees. And as I was taking pictures they became my favorite. After the tornado hit, the trees were stripped clean of their bark and now they are full of “new life.” I think they are beautiful full of new green leaves.

Friday Favorite: Christ In Youth

Last week remember how I said I was going to be gone. Well, now I get to share about where I was. It was one of those amazingly cool weeks; two days of travel, five days at conference, and one more day of travel. Five days at a Christ in Youth Conference with seven super great kids and two super great adults, all in Cleveland, TN. I’m not even sure where to start. There were so many great moments. The students were great; open, present, and seemed to create a genuine bond together. Mitzi and Korben the other two adult sponsors were amazing too. I had traveled with Mitzi and the youth group before to Christ In Youth Conferences and early this year Mitzi asked me if I would like to join them again, I was thrilled to be a part of this trip with them.

There were so many moments and things learned. One moment that sticks out the most is a documentary that they showed, “Love Costs Every thing.” The documentary shared the lives of those being persecuted for spreading the Gospel. I’m not quite sure there are words to describe how I felt. All I can say now is PRAY.

Now to share some of the super great moments; those top three photos in the image below make me smile. It was the last day of conference and Korben was teaching the small group lesson. The lesson included the students drawing what they thought John the Baptist looked like. When this section of the lesson came up I suggested that everyone draw the images on Korben’s legs. It came down to boys against girls on who drew the best image. Korben was super thrilled. (Did you catch my hint of sarcasm?)

BABY INDIE : FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

Isn’t baby Indie just one of the cutest babies? When it comes to shooting babies, I’m lost. It’s like my Achilles heel (not sure if I spelled that right, tried about 10 times in spell check to figure it out, ha! ) in photography. But Indie makes my job really easy, because she is super relaxed. The whole time I was taking her picture she was super chill.

Friday Favorite: 4th of July

I’m not one of those people that has to have super big plans on the 4th of July. Hanging out with friends doing whatever is good with me or catching a movie and sitting on my front porch and watching fireworks go off way in the distance is cool too. This year was a little bit of all those things. Sunday night I went to the home of some friends of mine for a get together. You know; hanging out, eating food, wondering around, kids running around, and of course shooting off fireworks. I had a good time and got to hang out with some great people.

So I wanted to share some of the fun stuff of the evening. And I want to explain a couple things from the images too. First, see those hotdogs wrapped in bacon… and see those huge flames on the grill? Yep, the hotdogs didn’t make it, and it made the evening super amusing.

Also, see that image right there at the bottom in the middle, that’s a fire lantern! Have you seen Tangled? Yea, it was just like in the movie! Coolest thing ever!

In This Moment: HOPE

It’s been about 7 weeks since the tornado hit. A lot has happened in my town. Sometimes I drive around and think, “My town is broken.” And then I’m reminded that it may be broken but it is healing. So many people from all over have come to help my town. One of the coolest things has been seeing all those different people that are here to help.

This first image is my favorite. Last weekend I was out taking photos and drove by a house. It was missing nearly all the walls and the roof, but there was furniture set up inside; a couch and loveseat, and a dining room table and chairs, and written all over two of the main walls, where tons of encouraging messages.

The following images I wanted to share simply so I could continue to share with you small pieces of my home town.

IN THIS MOMENT : JOPLIN TORNADO

This is my home town. The following images were taken after the EF5 tornado that struck Joplin, MO. Sunday, May 22, 2011. Here is my story.Sunday evening… five o’clock something… the tornado sirens go off.  Huddled in the closet… holding the door tight… praying… windows breaking… debris hitting the house… trees, large beautiful trees hitting the ground. Exit closet… start crying… call Tyler… drop call… look outside… trees uprooted out of the ground… CIAOS. Not a very good story, I know, but that’s how it felt.

Some the photos that I shared were taken right after the tornado hit. A couple blocks south of my home is (was) a small retirement home.  The sadness that hovered amongst the individuals that were desperately seeking to find others amongst the rubble left me speechless. As I walked down the street, I did nothing but stare in devastation. So many stories have surfaced since that tornado. My story is one of blessing; I still have my car, I still have a bed to sleep in, I still have my job.  Not everyone has those things.

One of the most beautiful things that came from the devastation of this tornado has been watching the community of Joplin come together along with others around the nation to support each other.
